Sandown Display Day 2011

Finally, here are my pictures of of the Historic Commercial Vehicle Clubs 2011 Display Day at Sandown racecourse on November 27. We have  a very fancy SLR camera, sadly we had it on the wrong setting for the overcast day that it was and so they all turned out dismallly, and I didn't  even want  to look at them for ages. However, with the benefit of Photoshop, they have been lightened up a bit to make them ok. Really, the main reason I wanted to post the photographs was because we had the Volvo on the Display Day badge and that was very exciting. I am sure they will become a sought after collector's item.  You can see it above.  Anyway, here are some photos of some of the trucks.

Warwick Harris's AEC and, below, is the much smaller truck that was on the back of it.

An Atkinson, above, and Ian Latham's Austin fire truck below.

A Bedford and a C1300 International.
Robert Johnston's Bedford is above. Below is another Bedford and Brian Dawes' Dodge.

Another Bedford and another C1300 Inter. Seriously, people should not be allowed to put their bonnets up like this as it ruins my pictures.
Another Bedford and Donny McGregor's Ford.

Steve de Longville owns this groovy, yellow Bedford and Graeme Johnston owns the TK Bedford, below.

This is our Benz and there are three other Benzs below.

Opening of CMV Albury Wodonga May 2012

We were invited to take the Volvo up to the opening of CMV Albury Wodonga on May 11 and 12. They had  a dinner on the Friday night and an open day on the Saturday. Rod Calleja drove his Mack Superliner with his B-model and our Volvo on the back. There was a display of both old and new Volvos and Macks - here are some photographs.

Volvo F86 - owned by Crawfords, who own CMV, as is the G88 below.

Another 1964 B-model Mack.

1967 Flintstone, or R-model.

1971 F-model Mack.

Rod Calleja's 1984 Superliner.

And it is a dealership, so they naturally had a line-up of new Volvos and Macks.

As part of the Saturday entertainment for the children, they had a Disney promotional van, towed by a Mack.

On the way home - these were taken at Euroa.

Federation Picnic at Pakenham 2012

The Federation Picnic, was hosted by the Dandenong Valley Car Club and was held at the Pakenham racecourse on April 15. There were around 300 exhibits, most of which were cars of all makes and models and there was a small contingent of trucks.

This is  a 1979 Acco 1710B fire truck from the Fire Services Museum collection.

Two REOS, Tony & Glenys Hackett's Gold Comet and a Speedwagon, shown below.

Ian James' Morris Commercial and caravan.

Stan Hamilton and his Maple Leaf and Sam Capes and his De Soto are regulars at the Pakenham Picnic.

Another Pakenham Picnic regular is Ian Chatfield  and his 1939 Chev.

 A neat Fargo utility.

A 1939 Chev, towing a Furphy tank, which was a very stylish display and won the best commercial vehicle award. Owned by Ian Clark.

Some Fergie tractors.

And finally, here is the Benz. It's a great venue, the Pakenham Racecourse, sadly it has been sold and they are moving to  a  new site between Nar Nar Goon and Tynong and I presume that this site will become a housing estate, as if Pakenham needs more housing. The Cardinia Council should have bought the site to keep as open space.

Korumburra Working Horse and Tractor Rally 2012

The Rally is held at Nyora annually, this year on March 17 & 18. As the name suggests there is an historic tractor pull plus a great display of old tractors and some working horses. There is also a display of stationary engines and other ‘olden days’ stuff. Plus there are some historic trucks. This year we didn’t get there until lunch time on the Sunday as we had to get our trucks back from the Melbourne International Truck Show, so here are some of the trucks that were there then.

A duo of 1974 1418 Mercedes Benz trucks - ours is above and  Eric Shingles is below

A neat 1948 A70 Austin ute, owned by Bill & Judy Aitken.

 Jim Parker's Bedford and a Ford L9000.

John Gramlick's Commer Knocker and Commer van and Graham & Heather Cameron's D1210 Inter.

A Ford K1110. Apparently, the Ford Thames Trader K series was introduced in the early 1960s and were produced until 1972.

A D1910 Inter.

Warwick Bryce's Leader, used to be owned by Calleja Transport.

Stan Hamilton's 1946 Maple Leaf and Tony & Glenys Hackett's REO Gold Comet.

Glenn Lancey's 1977 Dodge, a C1300 Inter, John & Bev Ferguson's KB6 Inter, our Benz, a White, Eric's Benz and the D1910 Inter.

Kelvin Wyatt's J-model Bedford, Ian Latham's Inter and Vyn Harris' Kenworth crane truck.

Finally, Graham Young's hay bale loader mounted on a J-model Bedford. It won the best working exhibit at the Show.
