Korumburra Working Horse and Tractor Rally, Nyora

This Rally was held on March 20 & 21 2010 and takes place every year at TGS Sands, South Gippsland Highway at Nyora, just past the Bass Gas plant. It's a great event and has everything - there’s a truck display, then a tractor pull, heaps of old tractors – the Harry Ferguson Club have a display every year, old cars, stationary engines, draught horses ploughing the paddock, shearing exhibitions and cute baby animals. There is an old working chaff cutter and the local Historical Society Display. Plus good food and everyone's friendly. About 20 trucks were displayed - we took the Volvo and the 1976 Freighter trailer and there were two other European trucks there - which took the European Truck Count to a massive fifteen per cent of all trucks displayed! What a sight, but still we were sadly outnumbered by the non Europeans.

Here's our 1976 N1025 Volvo and 38 foot Freighter trailer.

1983 Scania.

A 1974 LS 1418 Benz, belonging to Eric Shingles.

1923 Ford, which was part of the display with the 1915 Cliff & Bunting "New Reliance" chaff cutter (below)

Norm Nettleton's 1975 J3 model Bedford, which he purchased at this same event last year.

Graeme & Judy Johnston also had a TK Bedford, with the Toyota Dyna on the back.

There were two Leylands on show - above is a Hippo and a 1977 model is below.

Ken Stephen's 1969 Kenworth.

1977 Dodge owned by Glenn Lancey.

Sam Capes 1956 De Soto. I love this truck and it's even my favourite colour.

1942 Lend Lease Chev.

Ross Turnbull's TK Bedford, Graeme Latter's 1954 R180 Inter, the Leyland Hippo and Warwick Bryce's Foden with the Rolls Royce Meteor engine on the back.

Proving once again that Internationals are the most popular trucks on the Truck Show Circuit - here is a line-up - J.T Clark of Poowong's 1970 C1300 , John Ferguson's 1949 KB6 , John Denholm's 1962 AB 180.

Jock Crawford's 1974 C1610 Inter.

Roy Bright's 1924 Inter and Ian Latham's custom built Inter.

1967 C-line International.

1964 AB 150 Inter.

1973 International, belonging to Lloyd Hunter.

International Acco C2050.

Finally, competition is tough in the tractor pulls, so Ian Latham thought he'd bring along a tank to blast the competition away. It is fitted with a 671 GM.

Cancer Fundraiser, Labour Day, 2010

The Trafalgar Truck Restorers Club (TTRC) held a fundraiser for the Oncology Unit of the West Gippsland Hospital (or Warragul Hospital as it used to be known as) on Labour Day. All in all, with activities on the day, including raffles and auctions, fund raising at Trucks in Action and donations from the Community, we donated $3000 to the Unit. There was a write-up in the Warragul Trader from March 25, 2010.

We held the event at Max and Maisie O'Brien's farm out of Trafalgar, which is a lovely venue. Below are some photos of some the trucks displayed.

A line-up including Bob Needham's 1947 KM Bedford , John Mahoney's 1964 Dodge and Stan Hamilton's 1969 F250.

Frank Strickland's 1961 JI model Bedford, restored by the late Jim Bury and Ray Watt.

John Nicholson's 1978 International Scout.

John Mahoney's 1964 Dodge.

Delsa Bury's 1948 KB2 Inter, which is the basis of our Club logo. Jim Bury, our foundation member, passed away last year with Cancer.

We left the Volvo at home, but there was a European truck there - this is the new acquistion of Vyn Harris, a 1425 Benz and there is a another view below.

Trucks in Action 2010 - Part 3

In this third post on Trucks in Action at Lardner Park in 2010, you will see some of the medium size trucks and commercial vehicles. As I said in the first post, which showed all the smaller commercial vehicles, there is not necessarily any logical or technical reasons as to why I have decided that the trucks are big, medium or small. The second post shows all the big trucks. We will start with my favourite truck at Trucks in Action, apart from the Volvo, Rob & Carol Tylee's tram truck.

This is Bendigo Tram's No.15 truck, a 1957 Bedford, with the working platform to fix the overhead tram lines. Not only does the platform still work, but so does the bell. This was the truck's first public outing, since Rob & Carol purchased it a few months ago. Next to it is Norm Nettleton's 1975 J3 Bedford.

Two fire trucks were on show, a 1957 Austin displayed by Wayne Roots (above) which is still a working fire truck and was used on Black Saturday. Below is Ian Latham's 1951 Austin, which originally belonged to the Joel Fire Brigade. Joel is near Ararat.

There were two Fodens, Warwick Bryce's 1955 GF and Frank La Torre's 1961 S21 model (below).

Graham and Heather Cameron's 1943 Lend Lease Chev, which was originally the Narre Warren Fire Brigade truck. They also displayed their 1971 &-series Dodge.

John Denholm's 1962 International AB180 log jinker.

Bill Sedgeman's 1975 Ford F350, next to Stan Hamilton's 1969 Ford F250.

Stan Hamilton also displayed his other truck, his 1946 Maple Leaf, towing his 1950 caravan, originally owned by the Thomas family of Pakenham, the publishers of the Pakenham Gazette since 1909. The caravan is shown below.

The other caravan at Trucks in Action, was owned by Ian James. Ian's caravan is a home made 1950 van and is towed by his 1948 Morris Commercial.

Fred Nuttall's International KS5.

John and Bev Ferguson displayed their Internationals, a 1948 KB3, above and the 1949 KB6, below.

Jock Crawford's 1974 International and, below, Lloyd Hunter's 1972 Inter.

Ian Chatfield's 1939 Chevrolet, next to Ron Campbell's 1965 F700 Ford.

In this line up, the 1970 Commer 2500 is owned by John Gramlick, who has had it since new. Further along, the red Inter AA150 is owned by Russell and Brenton Ashley.

Max and Maisie O'Brien's 1969 Bedford.

Bill and Ray O'Halloran 1975 Dodge.

Peter & Tracy Rochow's 1976 C60 Chev.

Dave Malady's 1941 Chev Maple Leaf.

The only Japanese truck on show belonged to Graeme & Judy Johnston. It is a 1976 Toyota Dyna, pictured above, with their 1976 TK Bedford.

A 1975 KM Bedford, belonging to Jack Apps.

Two Acco C1800's. The one, above, belongs to Fred Black and
Des & Lynn Judd's is below.

And finally, last but not least, the only bus on display, owned by Trucks in Action regular, John Phillips. The bus is a s1952 AEC Regal Mark 3, originally owned by the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board.

This is the third post on Trucks in Action at Lardner Park in 2010 and I have shown some of the medium size trucks and commercial vehicles. As I said in the first post, which showed all the smaller commercial vehicles, there is not necessarily any logical or technical reasons as to why I have decided that the trucks are big, medium or small. The second post shows all the big trucks.
